He was a Man who worked hard all his life, but it was taken from him by Cancer. He was loved by many and we will never forget him. He was more than my father, he was in fact my best friend.
The Choice of the songs was for a reason as well, My Father enjoyed ZZ Top, not only as a band, but their love for cars, not to mention it was the last concert we went together. As for Frank.well, the pictures will say it for me.
Mr. Everette O'Hara, also know as Ed and Guba, was born in New Orleans LO
while his parents were visiting the city. Although he was a two-pound baby when he
was born, he grew up to be the "Gentle Giant" that we all know.
Ed was raised in Chula Vista with his long-term friends Bob and Pat Combs,
Jim Logan, and Joe O'Leary. He joined the Air Force shortly after leaving Chula Vista
High School, then he worked at Pacific Southwestern Airlines for thirty five years as
an Aircraft Engineer, later to become an FAA Inspector. Despite the hard work
schedule and the long commute to Los Angeles, Ed was a devoted husband to his wife
Maria-Elena, and a great father to his children Helen, Patrick, and John Paul. To all of
us, he was a good friend who would go out of his way to give a hand.
Ed was also known for his knowledge and passion for boats and cars. He was a
dedicated member of the Julian Yacht Club, Thunderbird Association, and Car Council
of San Diego. He was also involved in the activities of the Freedom Race Boat Team
with John Paul, and the San Diego Rose Society with Maria-Elena and Helen.
Ed fought Stage 4 lung cancer for about one and a half years. Even amongst the
doctors and the medical staff, he was known to be the most strong-willed and the most
positive cancer patent they have ever seen.
In every respect, Ed has been and will always be our hero for his incredible
strength and warmth. He will always live in our hearts, and we shall never forget the
lessons of life learned from him.
Ed lived his life just as the Irish Blessing says:
DANCE as if NO ONE were WATCHING
SING as if NO ONE were LISTENING
And LIVE EVERYDAY
As if IT WERE your LAST.
