As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. - Psalm 42:1.
Well known older chorus. A tremendous worship song of the Christian faith.
The soul of the Christian thirsts for God like a deer wandering in the forest might desperately search for a brook to drink from. This thirst is placed in us who have repented from our sins and trusted in Christ Jesus as Savior.
To sin is to violate God's commandments: you shall not kill, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not lie, you shall not steal, you shall not covet your neighbor's goods, etc.
It's pretty easy to see that all, including you and I, have sinned. That leaves us hopelessly facing the wrath of a holy and just God.
This is where is almost unspeakable love enters. In love for this world that has forsaken Him, He sacrificed His one and only beloved son, allowing Him to suffer and die on a cross like a wicked, common criminal. This was Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He died on that cross taking the wrath and punishment of God that WE owed. Then He was buried, and He rose from the dead on the third day, just as the Bible says.
If you will repent (humbly acknowledge your sins and turn away from sinning) and trust Christ (believe that He is the Son of God, that He died for your sins, and that He rose from the dead), He will save you.
And believe me - you will then surely learn to THIRST for Him, to pant for Him like a deer does a water brook.
Believe, then be baptized and join up with a good Bible-teaching church and learn to follow our wonderful Lord Jesus.
