It's hard to put into words the impact Iron Maiden had on me when I was in junior high school. For a year straight, I practically listened to nothing else. Their music took you on journeys -- from the sands of the planet Dune to a whore's flat on the east end of London. They were the quintessential heavy metal band of the early 1980s, and influenced so many of my generation.
When they came to L.A. on their Powerslave tour, it was the first time I spent the night outside of a record store (Music Plus on Van Nuys Blvd, to be specific), so I could buy tickets as soon as they opened in the morning. The concert was amazing to say the least. Maiden was at their peak -- they sold out 4 nights at the Long Beach Arena, and footage from those shows would make up the majority of their classic Live After Death album/home video. Not only was the music tight, but they had the best stage show around (Eddie!).
Please check out Zodiakironfist's videos for some awesome Iron Maiden bass playing (if your eyes don't pop out first from the Primus covers). UP THE IRONS!
