Recently Jay Chou's personally written "Fragrant Rice" was released, it attracted popular support from fans, being Jay Chou's "main lyricist", Vincent Fang accepted an interview with us, he expressed the lyrics to "Fragrant Rice" are very beautiful, the new album is even more complete having works from Jay Chou himself.
Pres Chou felt that there was nothing special about the clothes he wore in the Paddy Fragrance MV, but some felt that it has slight resemblance to the Japanese gangster image. Jay revealed that the clothes were actually a souvenir he brought while he was in Thailand. Coincidentally, his newest MV had a country folk feel to it, so it was natural that Jay decided to wear this set of clothes (for the MV).
The MV for the first single Paddy Fragrance premieres across the world today. In Taiwan, the MV will premiere at 8PM across 3 state-owned News Stations, as well as 6 privately-funded News Stations. This is the first time News stations are broadcasting a Music Video during its prime time News update. Based on advertising cost standards, the 120 seconds MV airtime is expected to cost JVR Music at least $2 million TWD (62,384.95 USD).
Referring to the Latin-American drum, This is not an ordinary drum, it is pretty Diao, I brought it from Japan and I find its design very special. It can produce the sounds from both a big drum and a small one. I was thinking when I can put it to use, and finally (the chance came)
Unlike Pres Chous (the musical genius) previous MVs, his latest MV combines the western hip-hop culture with the rural folk music. It was shot in the country side filled with paddy fields, Jay even sat on a ox cart to add to the flavour. Jays distinct style of biting his words (not pronouncing every word clearly) can still be heard. He is also very proud about the new drum he brought on set with him.
In his latest song, Jay did not sing about love. Instead, he presented listeners a heartwarming and encouraging song. Reminiscing on the simplicity of the good old times, the song is rich with emotions. As the MV director, Pres Chou chose to shoot the MV at a rural village country side, with no female lead, only the company of his good friend, Gary, singing together in a small path on a paddy field.
Jay said, Coming to this place, I felt very relaxed and carefree immediately. (As for) my partnering guitarist, the first person that comes into mind is Gary. Why Gary? Because he frequently plays the guitar in the recording studio, and he is very carefree about the way he plays. I dont feel any pressure when I see him.
Jay Chou's 9th album "Capricorn" is expected to be released on October 9, 2008
