This is probably one of the most polarising songs of all time. Most people either love it or hate it. I was asked recently to play it after first tinkering with it several years ago. I decided to do the arrangement on the Yamaha Electone HX-1. Even though this instrument is over 20 years old, I still think it holds its own. The only "help" the HX-1 gets is from a Yamaha AVS-10 voice expander, which was basically an optional extra for Electones of the late 80's.
In the spirit of Electone, all the notes (and mistakes) are live. The onboard sequencer is used only for the rhythm and registration changes.
By request, I've also added annotations that indicate what sounds and effects are being used for different parts of the song. These can be turned off if you don't want to see them. For the record:
FM = Frequency Modulation, the primary tone generation technology used by the HX-1
AWM = Advanced Wave Memory, a tone generation technology based on sampling used by the HX-1 and AVS-10
